Helping Others Tie Their Camels

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, the hadith outlines the story of a bedouin man who was leaving his camel without tying it.

The Prophet (SAW) asked him, “Why don’t you tie down your camel?”

“I put my trust in Allah,” the bedouin replied.

The Prophet then replied, “Tie your camel first, and then put your trust in Allah.”

Last week on the blog, we highlighted the main learning from this hadith, which is tawakkul and self-responsibility. While we’re told to always have full faith in Allah, we’re also told to do our part, and use the tools that Allah has given us. We also know it’s not always easy to tie your camel, and that’s why we are here - to help you, and do it together.

While self responsibility is very important, helping one another is also a big part of our faith. So, how can YOU help others tie their camel?

Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“If anyone relieves a Muslim believer from one of the hardships of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection. Source: Sahih Muslim

Helping someone tie their camel can look like a lot of different things. You can help someone tie their camel in a small way, by proofreading their essays or helping them with referrals while they’re job hunting.

You can help someone take care of themselves by helping get them to an appointment, or guiding them to the appropriate resources to help them with mental health.

That’s where  Sakeenah Canada comes in. We’re here to help you and others tie your camels, with our programming offering everything from shelter services for women and children, support for food insecurity, mental health resources and everything in between.

By becoming a monthly donor at organizations like Sakeenah Canada, you can help your neighbours tie their camels. Even a donation of $10 a month can make the world of a difference.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: tying your camel is sometimes easier said than done. Sometimes someone does give it their all, all while remaining steadfast in their faith, but if there are instances where you can offer that extra support - why not? Helping others is the way of the beloved Prophet (PBUH) and his companions, and it’s also been linked to being the key to happiness.

Become a monthly donor today, and continue to help others tie their camels.
