Ten Days Of Forgiveness

Once again, we find ourselves one-third of the way through Ramadan. The first ten days have passed by with the blink of an eye, and before we know it the second ashra - the ten days of forgiveness - has started. Ramadan is divided into three parts: 10 days each for seeking mercy, forgiveness, and freedom from the Fire.

The middle ten days are often overlooked. They don’t have the emphasis or power of the last ten nights, and the motivation and excitement of the first ten days often starts to dwindle. Sometimes we just get used to the routine of Ramadan, and neglect taking advantage of every day. But now is the time to switch gears and get into the mindset of forgiveness.

“And seek Allah’s forgiveness. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Al-Muzzamil, 73:20)

While we ask Allah for forgiveness in these ten days, it’s also important to be forgiving and merciful to those around us. It’s the perfect time to let go of grudges, grant forgiveness to those who may have wronged you, and seek forgiveness from others for things you may have done to hurt them.

Here are 6 Duas for forgiveness you can recite over these next ten days:

أسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ رَبي مِنْ كُلِ ذَنبٍ وَأتُوبُ إلَيهِ
Astaghfirullah rabbi min kulli zambiyon wa atoobu ilaiyh
I ask forgiveness of my sins from Allah who is my Lord and I turn towards Him.

Rabbanaa zalamnaaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna minal khaasireen
“Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will certainly be losers.” (Al-A'raf 7:23)

لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَـٰنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

La ilaha illa anta Subhanaka inni kuntu minaz Zalimin
“There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong.”
(Al-Anbiya 21:87)

Oh Allah, you are Al-Ghafoor, The All-Forgiving, so forgive us for the sins we’ve committed knowingly and unknowingly, in public and in private.

Oh Allah, you are Ar-Raheem, The Most Merciful, so have mercy on us and grant us forgiveness

Oh Allah, you are Al-Ghaffar, The Ever-Forgiving, The Most Forgiving,  so forgive us for the sins we’ve committed in the past and those we may commit in the future

May Allah accept all of our duas this Ramadan, and allow us to be better to ourselves, our families, and our communities - ameen!
